President Donald Trump gave a stark warning Saturday that cast growing uncertainty over whether a nuclear deal clinched with Iran would survive after the Islamic republic tested a new medium-range missile.

Although technically in compliance with the JCPOA, the ballistic missile test is not at all in compliance with prior United Nations mandates, nor is it in compliance with the spirit of the nuclear deal, inasmuch as the missiles are likely to be able to carry nuclear warheads, a technology that Iran is supposedly proscribed from working on for the eight years at least.

The statements came one day after Iranian media announced that the country had successfully tested its latest missile.

President Trump has promised over and over again to adopt a much harder line in the direction of Iran, intimidating at numerous time to negotiate or maybe take apart this 2015 nuclear option, as well as blast Iranian boats out from the waters should they pressure United states naval ships.

Iran, which fought a brutal war with neighbouring Iraq in the 1980s, sees missiles as a legitimate and vital part of its defence - particularly as regional rivals Saudi Arabia and Israel import huge amounts of military hardware from the West.

It's been known that Iran has had a missile with a range capable of reaching Israel, said Mark Fitzpatrick, executive director of the Institute for Internal Strategic Studies-Americas, a think tank.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to fight what he described as "an Iranian curtain" descending on the Middle East, and pledged to prevent Iran from producing any weapons that could hit Israel.

Earlier this week, Trump had urged the worldwide community not to let the Iranian regime to continue destabilizing activities as it builds "dangerous missiles". "Not much of an agreement we have!" he added.

Rohani responded to Trump remarks in his own speech to the UN General Assembly on September 20, saying Trump's speech was "ignorant, absurd, and hateful rhetoric".

Trump is due to report to Congress on October 15 on whether Iran is still complying with the deal and whether it remains in United States interests to stick by it.

Despite that, until this point the Trump administration has certified Iran's compliance with the accord. Britain, China, France, Germany and Russian Federation are parties to the pact. The U.S. opposes Iran's ballistic missile program and Trump signed a bill last month imposing penalties on those involved with it.

Tehran insists its missile program doesn't the resolution, saying the missiles are not created to carry nuclear weapons.
