IRGC Commander: Iran not to negotiate with United States on regional issues

Iranian missiles to become more precise IRGC Commander: Iran not to negotiate with United States on regional issues

The commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guards said that if the US imposes new sanctions on his country, they will have to move their bases in the region outside the 2,000-mile range of Iran's missiles.

The chief of Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guards Corps has advised Washington to move its military bases farther from Iran's borders if new U.S. sanctions are imposed on Tehran, the official state agency IRNA reported.

Jafari also said if the USA enforces the new law for imposing new sanctions, Iran will consider the move as an abrogation of the 2015 nuclear deal and would increase its deterrence power, including its missile capability.

A senior USA administration official, cited by the Financial Times, said on Friday that Trump would not seek the reimposition of broad sanctions that would risk collapsing the accord but is expected to announce new measures.

"As we've announced in the past, if America's new law for sanctions is passed, this country will have to move their regional bases outside the 2,000 km range of Iran's missiles", Guards' commander Mohammad Ali Jafari said, according to state media.

Publicly, Tehran has vowed to ramp up its ballistic missile tests in the face of US and European criticism.

Iran's ballistic missile program has triggered the discontent and concerns of other states, in particular, the United States.

In Alabama, Governor Kay Ivey, urged residents of areas suffering from strong winds and storm surges, to take security measures. Rain began falling on the region Saturday and forecasters called for 3 to 6 inches with as much as 10 inches in isolated places.

Jafari also warned the U.S. that a negative categorization of the Guard would eliminate "any chance for [bi-lateral] engagement forever".

Iran's reported approach came after Trump called the nuclear accord "an embarrassment" and "the worst deal ever negotiated".

Such a step could unravel the breakthrough agreement - seen by supporters as crucial to forestalling a Middle East arms race and tamping down regional tensions since it limits Iran's ability to enrich uranium in exchange for sanctions relief.

Any breaches of the deal by the United States would result in Iran's partial or complete withdrawal from the agreement, the Iranian minister warned, adding that Tehran would be undeterred by threats of sanctions.

"The Americans expressed their worries about Iran's missile capability and Zarif said in reply that the program could be discussed", the Iranian source told Reuters.

Jafari noted that the U.S.is following the "wrong path" if it thinks it could pressure Iran into negotiating on regional issues.
