As the craft landed safely, The Register's aviation desk will assume it wasn't chopped up by the plane's propellors.

The drone that struck the passenger plane last week was following the 3.5-mile restriction, but was flying much higher than legally allowed, hovering some 450 meters (1,500 feet) above the ground.

It is the first time an unmanned flying object has collided with a commercial aircraft in Canada, the country's transport minister Marc Garneau said on Sunday.

Garneau reminds drone operators "all airports, helipads and seaplane bases are "No Drone Zones" and "endangering the safety of an aircraft is extremely risky and a serious offence". Drone operators that put an aircraft at risk could face hefty fines and jail time.

The current President Almazbek Atambayev, whose mission will expire on December 1, 2017, does not agree to elections because Constitution does not allow.

Currently, anyone wanting to fly a drone in Canada is subject to a set of safety regulations. For 2017, to date 1,596 drone incidents have been reported to the department.

"If a drone were to hit the window of a cockpit and incapacitate the pilot, or were to damage in anyway an engine, this could have catastrophic results", Garneau said at a news conference. The drone has yet to be identified and no arrests have been made so far.

Drone usage has soared in North America, Europe and China, raising privacy concerns and fears of collisions with commercial jets, and prompting the United Nations' aviation agency to back the creation of a single global drone registry. But after an investigation, the British government later concluded what happened probably wasn't "a drone incident".

There have also been several near misses with airplanes in recent years.
