City fires 2 aviation cops involved in dragging man off United flight

Two Aviation Security Officers involved in the infamous, violent dragging of Dr. David Dao from a United flight in April have been fired, according to the Office of Inspector General.
David Dao, a 69-year-old Vietnamese-American physician, was hospitalized after aviation officers dragged him from a United Airlines plane to make space for four crew members on the flight from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport to Louisville, Kentucky.
United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz, who issued a public apology for the incident, said the carrier would no longer allow officers to remove passengers in overbooking situations.
The other two officers were given five-day suspensions for their roles in the incident, which one contested and had downgraded to a two-day suspension.
The actions of one of the security officers violated the department's use of force policy by escalating a nonviolent situation into a violent situation, said the inspector general's office.
Dao refused to leave his Chicago-to-Louisville flight after he was told by United Airlines officials that his seat was needed for a crew member working a connecting route.
What's more, Ferguson said a pair of the officers "deliberately removed material facts from their reports" in a bid to cover for each other. The other security officer resigned. They were identified only as an aviation security officer and a sergeant.
The second officer was accused of making "misleading statements in two reports".
The confusion "highlighted CDA's fundamental failure to implement practical policies and procedures", Ferguson wrote.
There is a lesson to be learned here for police officers at all levels.
