Police said they detained the suspect, 23-year-old Akash, who was pursuing Induja against her wishes for almost a month.

A woman in Chennai died of burns after she, her mother and her sister were allegedly set on fire by a man who police said was stalking her. The victim's mother is said to have suffered 49 per cent burns and her is said to be in the ICU. Her sister and mother also suffered severe burns while trying to save her.

According to the Newspaper, . As per the witnesses present at the spot, the hospital ambulance took nearly 40 minutes to reach the residence after receiving a call from a neighbour. He claimed to be in love with Indhuja but she turned down his advances, which angered him and he killed her. The accused has been arrested, NDTV reported on Tuesday.

When Indhuja didn't respond, Aakash went to her house on Monday night and committed the heinous act.

According to reports, the stalker was identified as Ashok living in the neighbourhood who landed outside Induja's residence on Monday night along with petrol. However, when the three women came out, splashed petrol on Induja and used a lighter to set her fire.

On hearing their screams, the neighbours rushed to the victim's house.

The victim's uncle said, "Akash was stalking my niece for a month". While a few reports have claimed that the accused is an engineering graduate, another report stated that he is a college dropout.

"Initially, they didn't open the door, but Akash insisted that he would only to talk to Induja".
