The old paper £10 note will no longer be legal tender from 1 March 2018, the Bank of England has announced.

Around 55 per cent of the £10 notes now in circulation are the newer version pictured above, while the remaining 359 million are made of paper.

They are already being phased out due to the introduction of the new polymer notes, which feature 19th century author Jane Austen, in September.

A portrait of Austen is on the back of the polymer note, accompanied by a line from her best-known work, Pride and Prejudice: "I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading!"

What happens if you do not spend your notes by the deadline?

The Bank introduced the paper £10 note featuring naturalist Charles Darwin on November 7, 2000.

President Donald Trump exchanged war-like threats and insults over the North's nuclear and missile development programme. Global leaders have begun arriving here in Manila, the Philippines for the 31st ASEAN-related summits.

But the old note can still be exchanged by the Bank after the cut-off date.

The new bank notes follows suit of the old style £5 which went out of circulation in May, and the old £1 coin which is no longer legal tender.

Despite the vegans' protests, the note with Jane Austen also has an inscription in raised dots that help blind and partially-sighted users to identify them.

The central bank has pushed for the adoption of polymer notes, arguing they are more durable than paper notes and are harder to counterfeit.

Bank of England governor Mark Carney said about the notes: "The new £10 will be printed on polymer, making it safer, stronger and cleaner".
