LiAngelo Ball, left, was among three UCLA basketball players arrested on suspicion of shoplifting in Hangzhou, China. The president's chief of staff John Kelly has also been in contact with the players' families as well as the team's coach.

Asked about the trio and Trump's discussing the issue with Xi, China Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a daily news briefing in Beijing: "Until now, I have not received any update, so I am unable to provide any further information".

A USA official who spoke on the condition of anonymity told The Post that Xi promised to look into the case and ensure that the players be treated fairly and expeditiously, adding that the charges against the three players have been reduced and that the case is moving toward a resolution.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed in an email that Trump raised the matter with Xi, The Post reported.

Pakistan spinner Ajmal to retire from cricket
He had picked 178 wickets in just 35 Test matches which included 10 five-wicket hauls and four 10-wicket hauls in the match. At the time he was banned, he was the No 1 ODI bowler in the world, and in the top ten of both Test and T20 rankings.

The players were released on bail last Wednesday and have been staying at hotel in Hangzhou, awaiting a decision from authorities that could range from release to fines to years of detainment.

A source told ESPN's Arash Markazi that there is surveillance footage of the players shoplifting from three stores inside a high-end shopping center, which houses Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Salvatore Ferragamo stores. ESPN reported the team has returned to the United States, without the three detained players.

Three UCLA basketball stars may be left in China as allegations against them for shoplifting go through the legal system.

The whole incident has since overshadowed the Ball family's entry into the Chinese market, as LiAngelo was supposed to accompany outspoken celebrity father LaVar during the store openings of family startup Big Baller Brand.
