Watford have issued a hands off warning to Everton, and will not entertain another approach for manager Marco Silva.

Despite being unable to avoid relegation with Hull City last season, the former Olympiacos boss instilled character and fighting spirit into the Tigers squad, earning plaudits for the way he steadied what was a sinking ship prior to his arrival.

But Watford have reportedly refused to part ways with their Portuguese manager after representatives of Everton owner Farhad Moshiri made enquiries on Monday, according to The Telegraph.

Silva would be a good option for Everton but the fact he has only signed for Watford just several months ago mean that this deal would be very hard to get over the line.

Everton themselves feel they can clinch that with an offer that would double his wages and promise ample scope to do business in the January window - especially as the club needs a striker - although no concrete discussions have yet taken place, since Watford are now completely unwilling to let their manager go.

Silva has guided Watford to ninth in the Premier League table after 11 games in charge following his appointment on a two-year contract.

Dyche, thought to be keen on talking to Everton, would cost £2.5 million in compensation.

Silva is understood to be Everton's preferred candidate amid doubts over the attainability of both Sam Allardyce and Burnley boss Sean Dyche.
