The Celtics remained unbeaten since an 0-2 start heading into their showdown Thursday in Boston against the National Basketball Association champion Golden State Warriors.

The Celtics extended their winning streak to 13 straight games with Tuesday's 109-102 victory over the Brooklyn Nets.

"I did my absolute best not to cry in front of her", Irving said on Tuesday.

Irving experienced some frustrating moments with the item forced upon him after fracturing his face in a collision with teammate Aron Bayes 1:50 into Friday's win over Charlotte.

Irving will wear a mask on the court and says he may need to play in it for a couple of weeks. The Celtics will now sit at 13-2, with the NBA's best record, when they take on the West-leading defending National Basketball Association champion Golden State Warriors on Thursday night in a marquee nationally televised matchup between the league's best offense (Golden State, averaging a blistering 116.1 points per 100 possessions) and its No. 1 defense (Boston, allowing a minuscule 95.8 points-per-100). "You've got to have the complete game, and that's where we were lacking".

"Just finding his way and doing what he does, making big plays for us, coming through and sealing the game", Horford said. The Nets immediately hit back with a 9-2 run in the first 2:05 of the fourth to make it a one-point game, before four straight free throws from the two Marcuses - Morris and Smart.

Joe Harris scored 19 points and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson had 16 points and nine rebounds for the Nets. Allen Crabbe and Caris LeVert added 15 points apiece.

With the protective mask on, Irving played 29 minutes and had five assists.

Irving famously scored a then-career-high 41 points against the New York Knicks while wearing a black mask in December 2012.

Aware of the inevitable "media frenzy" that will come with the Celtics' winning streak as well as Thursday's showdown with the defending champion Warriors, Irving said he was "looking forward to all that hoopla".

"They turned up their defense and we couldn't handle it", Nets coach Kenny Atkinson said. "We just have to do it in long stretches". He donned a transparent face mask during the game and went on to lead all scorers with 25 points.

At Dallas, LaMarcus Aldridge scored 32 points and Australian guard Patty Mills added 19 to spark the San Antonio Spurs over the Dallas Mavericks 97-91.
