Manchester City are good but not unstoppable, insists Wenger

Arsene Wenger GETTY Arsene Wenger does not believe Man City finish the season undefeated

The Arsenal coach, who according to some reports was the Football Association's first choice for the England manager's post after the departure of Roy Hodgson in 2016, has 18 months to run on his contract at the Emirates but says the idea of managing a national team at a World Cup is a tempting prospect. "If I am free one day why not, but at the moment my focus is on my job".

However, much to everyone's surprise, the Frenchman was awarded a new two-year deal, taking his stay in North London to nearly 23 years if he sees out his contract.

Whatever is achieved between now and 2019, though, it is expected that Wenger will leave the club and pursue pastures new, as he will be nearly 70 by then. Asked whether he could be on the bench at the World Cup in Qatar, he said: "Maybe, you never know".

For now, Wenger says he enjoys the constant interaction and work that comes with managing at a club rather than global level, so he is likely to see out his contract at Arsenal.

Gazzetta state they'll have to beat Arsenal to it, and with the Gunners unlikely to make a managerial change midway through the season, they might just do that.

Arsenal, who trail City by 12 points in sixth, host Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby on Saturday. But I believe the real experience to manage a team is on a daily basis.

Wenger was up there among the bookies favourites when Roy Hodgson resigned in the wake of England's exit at Euro 2016, but he eventually chose to stay in club football. Ozil is expected to sign a new deal while Sanchez looks likely to join league leader Manchester City.
