AL Secretary Of State: Moore 'Innocent Until Proven Guilty' Of Sex Allegations
15 November, 2017, 08:24
Alabama RepublicanSenate candidate Roy Moore says he's being hounded by the news media over sexual allegations against him, while briefly addressing the controversy Tuesday night.
The caller said he would not be "fully investigating these claims" but would make a written report. Does this mean that he stands by his endorsement of the pedophile running for Senate, or simply that he does not have the guts to stand up to a member of his own party?
Marty Baron, executive editor of the The Washington Post, said that the caller's reporting methods bear "no relationship to reality".
McConnell said Republicans were still considering having a candidate launch a write-in campaign against Moore for the December 12 special election.
The sexual assault scandal, as first reported by the Washington Post, shed light on the accounts of several women who alleged that Moore initiated sexual encounters with them when they were underage.
The Republican National Committee has severed its fundraising ties to Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore. Since then, a fifth woman has said Moore assaulted her when she was 16, and more than a dozen locals told the New Yorker they'd heard over the years that Moore had been banned from his hometown shopping mall for badgering teenage girls. Post spokeswoman Molly Gannon Conway called the accusation "categorically false", adding that The Post has "an explicit policy that prohibits paying sources".
Jones' campaign released a new ad on Tuesday featuring Republican voters who say they are backing the Democrat.
Roy Moore has denied the allegations, and has showed no indication that he intends to bow out of the race. All were initially reluctant to speak publicly but chose to do so after multiple interviews, saying they thought it was important for people to know about their interactions with Moore.
At a forum Tuesday organized by The Wall Street Journal, McConnell said Trump is discussing what to do in the Alabama race "in great detail".
The national Democratic Party, however, has yet to invest directly in the race beyond funds to build the state party, and has not changed that stance since the Moore allegations surfaced. Moore can't be knocked off the ballot under Alabama law. But other evangelicals feel the allegations force them to make an uncomfortable decision.
"I'm a pastor and I'm conservative, and so is Roy Moore, but I'm not dumb", he said. I think the president is right about this, that the judge certainly has the right to defend himself, and to come forward with what he believes are the facts.
