Ikea has relaunched the recall of 29 million chests and dressers following the death of an eighth child.
In all, IKEA has received 186 reports of tip-over incidents involving MALM chests and dressers, including 91 injuries to children, while they have also received 113 reports of tip-overs for other IKEA chests and dressers that lead to injuries of 53 children.
First announcing a recall in June 2016, many have raised the question if Ikea has effectively been spreading the word about it.
The recall, which applies only to customers in the US and Canada, is for children's chests and drawers taller than 23.5 inches and adult chests and dressers taller than 29.5 inches.
Parents, if you still have a dresser from IKEA in your home and you haven't secured it to the wall, the retailer hopes you will listen to this.
Ikea is offering full refunds for anyone who no longer wants the chest and dressers manufactured between January 2002 and June 2016.
Ikea said the recalled products are sold with instructions that they had to be attached to walls. The company set up a website to help consumers identify dressers that have been recalled. Customers can bring them to a store, or Ikea will pick them up.
The latest death was Jozef Dudek, 2, of Buena Park, California. Some additional chests and dressers included in the recall were sold between 1985 and June 2016. While the threat is serious, the solution is simple.
Unsafe tip-over incidents often occur when curious kids climb on furniture in an attempt to access TVs, toys, remotes or other desired items.
