A second airline has reported seeing North Korea's latest missile test during a flight last week.

Chunks of the missile plunged into the sea last week as the twin-jet Airbus cruised at an altitude of 39,000 feet off the coast of Japan. Though the flight was far from the event location, the crew advised Japan ATC (air traffic control) according to procedures.

The airlines confirmed that crew of the CX893 flight has reported the suspected sighting of the missile - which Pyongyang said can hit targets "everywhere in the world" - when they were mid-flight.

The airline does not plan on changing its flight path in the future because of the November 29 launch.

Cathay Pacific says the crew on a San Francisco-to-Hong Kong flight reported witnessing the apparent re-entry of the ICBM that North Korea launched before dawn Wednesday.

North Korea fired what is believed to be the biggest and most powerful missile in its arsenal last Wednesday, the Hwasong-15, after a weeks-long lull in testing.

The International Space Station maintains a fraction of that orbit - 254 miles. North Korean tests post a potential risk to planes as it rarely issues warnings of the launches or its missiles' intended flight path.

The North Korean missile was sacked very high up, reaching an altitude of 2,780 miles before falling back into the Sea of Japan about 600 miles from where it was launched.

But if a ballistic missile were to come close to a passenger jet, it would be almost impossible for the crew to detect, a Hong Kong-based pilot told CNN in August in the aftermath of that missile test.

Cathay is said to be planning to offer satellite phones to its crew on flights between South Korea and Hong Kong.

He said both planes safely landed at Incheon and the missile didn't endanger their safety because the trajectory was far enough from the planes' flight paths. As CNN notes, the DPRK's missile tests could pose a serious threat to commercial flights. The missile, said to be the most powerful one tested to date, can carry a "super large heavy warhead" and may put the entire continental United States in range.
