The U.S. Seventh Air Force sent major strategic military assets, including an unusually large number of the latest generations of stealth fighter jets, for the annual training in the Korean Peninsula.

North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile on Wednesday that officials and experts said had the potential to reach Washington, D.C., although it reportedly broke up before re-entering the Earth's atmosphere. About 12,000 US military personnel are participating. The F-22s flew into South Korea together in a show of force, and the allies plan to stage simulated attacks on mock North Korean nuclear and missile targets, according to Yonhap.

An official at the South Korean Defense Ministry, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of office rules, corrected his earlier statement that the exercise was the biggest ever.

Pyongyang says the USA and South Korea will "pay dearly for their provocations", the Korean Central News Agency reported Sunday before the start of the maneuvers.

With the U.S.' calling the other countries to sever the ties with Pyongyang, it will be interesting to see how Kim Jong-un will respond in the coming days.

It is the first time that so many Raptors have been deployed simultaneously in an exercise in South Korea.
