On Monday, the benchmark indices closed in the green with marginal gains as a surge in stocks of IT major Infosys kept market sentiments buoyed.

Also, investors looked ahead to the RBI monetary policy review and the first phase of Gujarat elections due this week.

Overseas, most European shares declined as investors digested the latest news surrounding Brexit talks and monitored fresh economic data.

The US dollar bounced to a two-week top on Monday as traders celebrated the passage of a Senate tax bill over the weekend, while stronger US stock futures pointed to a merry start for Asian shares.

The barometer 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the BSE closed at 32,869.72 points - up 36.78 points or 0.11 per cent - from Friday's close. Intra-day, it shuttled between 10,179.20 and 10,095.70. Paris CAC fell 0.29% and Frankfurt's DAX shed 0.13%.

Among the sectoral indices on BSE, power and metal indices slipped 1.06 per cent and 0.85 per cent. Telecom, Bankex and oil & gas indices closed higher by 0.83 per cent, 0.38 per cent and 0.16 per cent, respectively.

Total securities that hit their price bands were 191.
