Khamenei blames US for plans to start war in Middle East

US plan to move Israel embassy sign of 'failure', Iran's leader says Iran's supreme leader: Trump's Jerusalem plan a sign of incompetence, failure

President Hassan Rouhani, mirroring his co-leader's words in a speech to officials in Tehran, said that Iran "will not tolerate a violation of Islamic sanctities" and that "Muslims must stand united against this major plot".

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday urged Muslim world to stand against the USA "plot" to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Speaking to an audience of Iranian officials and ambassadors of Muslim countries to Iran, Khamenei stressed that "Zionists" would be unable to achieve their goals, and that Palestine would be finally liberated.

"That they claim they want to announce Quds as the capital of occupied Palestine is due to their incompetence and failure", Khamenei said, using the Arabic name for Jerusalem, according to his official website.

The statement also called on the worldwide community to pressure the United States not to go through with the embassy move or the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

Jerusalem remains at the core of the Israel-Palestine conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem - now occupied by Israel - might eventually serve as the capital of a future Palestinian state.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said earlier that the United States was trying to destabilize the region and start a war to protect Israel's security.

In the meantime, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday that the relocation of the USA embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem is illegal and would further destabilize Palestine and the Middle East region.

Iran has long supported a number of Palestinian militant groups opposed to Israel.

So, the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly condemns the USA decision and calls on the worldwide community and leading states particularly the Islamic countries to step into the fray and stop the implementation of the U.S. decision because it only serves the Zionist regime's interests.
