THE Federal Government Wednesday gave the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu and the Group Managing Director, GMD of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Maikanti Baru the matching order to clear the queues in filling stations in the country before weekend.

The FEC meeting which held in President Muhammadu Buhari's absence was presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

Ndu Ughamadu, the corporation's Group General Manager, Public Affairs Division, in a statement, said there was no plan to increase prices at the exdepot level and pump price ahead of the forthcoming Yuletide.

Most of the customers, who were seen in the queues at Total filling station along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja and Mobil filling station along Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, blamed the queues on usual brand loyalty and belief that they would "get adequate measurement of what they paid for".

But the NNPC said they are importing about 100 percent of petroleum products adding that there is sufficient supply across board.

"Right now, we are having a total shortage of products because we are not getting supply from our depots".

The Operations Controller of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Abeokuta, Ogun State, Mrs Muinat Bello-Zagi, has warned independent oil marketers not to cheat consumers of petroleum products in Ogun State.

"I wish to call on all Nigerians to stop panic buying".

"Before departing the country, Baru had directed that more truckloads of petroleum products be dispatched to various parts of the country to cushion the effects of excessive demand caused by panic buying".

Chairman of the committee, Senator Kabiru Marafa, stated this in a news briefing, shortly after an investigative hearing on the matter in Abuja, on Tuesday. "We at PMB's Oil and Gas Progress commend Baru for the step he has taken", he said.

"We hope he will be back by Thursday to tell Nigerians the true situation".

Marafa said the committee will also embark on oversight of filling stations across the country to check cases of fuel hoarding by petrol dealers.
