As the Senate version of the Republican tax reform bill made its way through the legislative process this past weekend, Gallup documented a highly partisan imbalance in Americans' reactions.

Two new polls released Tuesday found that the plan was deeply unpopular with most Americans, with many voters saying they believe it would not benefit them and would mostly assist wealthier people.

Mostly as a result of weak support from Democrats and independents regarding the proposed tax changes, only 29 percent of US adults as a whole approve of the plan, while 56 percent disapprove and 16 percent have no opinion.

A full 61% of respondents felt that the bill "favors the rich at the expense of the middle class".

Fifty-three percent of American voters are rejecting the tax plan while 29 percent approve, the independent Quinnipiac University Poll finds.

Though billed as a tax cut for all, or most, 41 percent said they think the plan will increase their taxes, 32 percent think it will be neutral and 20 percent said they expect tax cut.

Jerrold Nadler, New York Democrat, as he encouraged colleagues to vote against the proposal as it was debated on the House floor. As of 2014, all 50 states recognize concealed carry rights, though some states have different statutes regulating such a right.

Notably, Democrats have been following the news about congressional debate over the tax bill more closely than other party groups have, according to Gallups polling.

Despite the distaste for the bill among the public, Republicans have passed legislation separately through the House and Senate. That's driven largely by Democrats and independents, who overwhelmingly disapprove, while Republicans approved of the bill by 70% in that same poll.

Quinnipiac surveyed 1,508 voters between November 29 and December 4 with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percent. Voters said by a margin of 56-40 percent that Trump is not fit to be president, tying his all-time low score on that question.

An analysis by the Tax Policy Center found that on average, compared to current law low and middle-income taxpayers "would see little change" in their tax bills by 2027 under the Senate bill.

It would also essentially end the coverage mandate included in the Affordable Care Act and allow drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
