They recently unveiled their first concept, an SUV, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this weekend, and while outside it may not look all that different from a regular SUV, inside a sprawling display screen replacing the center console and controlled with hand gestures is the first hint Byton aims to make the auto of the future.

Byton, a new China-based company founded by automotive veterans of BMW (bmwyy) and Infiniti, unveiled Sunday an all-electric SUV loaded with technology that aims to supersize the experience and functionality of a smartphone.

Byton said the vehicle will have a range of more than 500 kilometres (300 miles) before needing a recharge and will be able to "top up" its battery in 15 to 30 minutes. Byton says the vehicle will be capable of 0-60mph in around five seconds.

For those wondering about how the vehicle actually drives, it will be capable of doing more than 500km on a single charge, and Future Mobility claims the battery can be recharged to 80pc in 30 minutes. This is the main way the driver and front passenger interacts with the vehicle.

Safety is the 'underlying principle, ' of the design, Breitfeld explained. This designation, determined by SAE International, is what's described as conditional automation.

In the meantime, the Byton SUV is expected to launch next year with the intention of making a vehicle that features a "living room" feel with a large, panoramic shared screen that facilitates hand tracking, face recognition, and emotion recognition, among other technologies. The face recognition cameras recognise the driver or passenger to unlock the door and Byton Air Touch that allows for display control via easy hand gestures at any position within the vehicle.

It's a sleek-looking vehicle, resembling the hatchback profile of the Model X. The door handles and antennas are invisible, and three color options appeared on stage; white, slate gray and a rosier shade. Side-view cameras replace traditional side mirrors.

'Once you have taken your seat, you will feel as if you're in a luxurious living room'.

Byton included a touchscreen in the middle of the steering wheel, letting the driver input destinations and interact with the vehicle. In addition, it will also monitor the driver's heart rate, weight, oxygen saturation, or blood pressure. The Level 4, which Byton is promising in the future would mean the auto taking over all of the driving in certain conditions.

The most eye-catching feature is the Shared Experience Display: Its 125 x 25 cm (49 x 9.8 in) screen automatically adjusts brightness according to changes in light, with a unique horizontal layout enabling content shown to be shared with other passengers in the auto. Because of the electric platform on which it is built, Byton announced it will also look at producing a sedan version, and an MPV, or multipurpose vehicle, a type found in regions other than the US.
