LG Display's giant rollable OLED TV is indistinguishable from magic

LG has come out swinging at CES this year, teasing a massive new 65-inch OLED TV that not just packs a native 4K res, but can be rolled up like a piece of paper. It's the successor to 2016's rollable 18-inch display panel, only now it's been scaled up to 65 inches and a full 4K resolution.

Back at CES 2016, LG showed off a rollable OLED display for the first time, but it was a mere 18-inches, not the impressive 65-inch consumer-ready television it now has at CES 2018. This new TV is more of a technological showcase than a marketable commodity at least for the time being.

LG OLED technology uses self-lighting pixels for exact control of image brightness and image quality, and with no separate light source the displays are extremely lightweight, thin and flexible.

The newly revealed LG television is very much in the news as the Korean firm is boasting so much about its huge display. Likewise, there are developments such as 55-inch transparent display and a 77-inch wallpaper OLED TV display that would be exhibited soon. LCDs, for instance, use colour filters and liquid crystals that block light to create an image.

New Moto Mods Introduced at CES 2018: Health and Keyboard Mods
There is even a mechanism that will allow you to tilt the phone upwards and away up to 60-degrees to give you a better angle. The new slider QWERTY keyboard is priced at $99 around ₹6,200 and will be available to purchase later this winter.

The key to LG's radical new display is that it does not require a backlight, according to the BBC.

LG says it is making its OLED TV even better for 2018, with the alpha 9 processor for 50 percent more powerful image processing than last year's lineup.

"We will firmly establish our position as a leading company by responding to market expectations and providing differentiated value in the rapidly expanding OLED market as well as the existing LCD market", said Dr. Sang-Beom Han, Vice Chairman and CEO of LG Display, in a press statement.

David VanderWaal, Vice President Marketing, Home Appliances & Consumer Electronics also gave us a quick demo of how an LG-powered smart home would look like.
