Paddington 2 movie review: Third time might be the charm

Paddington Paddington 2 movie review: Third time might be the charm

The film picks up not many days after the events of the first film. Since it's not every day a bear turns 100, Paddington decides the ideal gift to send would be a revered pop-up book of London, except there's a problem; the change stuck inside his ear isn't going to be enough to cover the expensive cost.

The cute, amusing and marmalade-loving Paddington bear that filmgoers have all grown to love is back for another wacky adventure in Paddington 2 in theaters today. Yet here they are, in a family film sequel prone to much stateside dismissal, giving it their collective all once again.

Check out what they had to say in the player above and below is exactly what we talked about. Unfortunately, a problematic situation arises with a narcissistic down on his luck fair entertainer (Hugh Grant) who robs the antique shop of the pop-up book, framing Paddington in the process. He certainly seems to be having the time of his life hamming it up in Paddington 2 as a pretentious, has-been actor who's now relegated to dressing up like a spaniel for dog food commercials.

The marmalade-loving former orphan Paddington (voiced by Ben Whishaw) has settled into life with the Brown family quite nicely, and the Browns are their usual chaotic selves.

What a pleasant surprise - a sequel that bears up to and perhaps even exceeds the original.

Most conversations involving Sally Hawkins these days will understandably revolve around her mesmerizing, almost wordless performance in the acclaimed drama "The Shape of Water", which in all likelihood will land the veteran British actress her first Best Actress Oscar nomination.

What to watch for in National Football League playoff divisional round
It's been reported that Chris Hogan and Kyle Van Noy will play and that could be huge, as is the possible return of Rex Burkhead. The Pittsburgh defense has lost a leader in Ryan Shazier, but they won't have to be spectacular in order to stop the Jags.

This family film about the adventures of a cute and cuddly bear in London is a delight for the entire family.

. Paddington starts picking up odd jobs to save up, but before he can purchase the one-of-a-kind present, the devious Phoenix Buchanan (Grant) swoops in and steals the treasure from the store, for mysterious reasons.

Paddington spreads marmalade ever where he goes and this time he's using it to hunt the flawless present and catch a caper. The movie's MVP is Brendan Gleeson, as the gruff yet soft-hearted prison chef with an all-timer name of Knuckles McGinty. This book would be the next best thing to actually being able to visit in person. It gives Paddington hope and the desire to become a free bear.

Grant, as well-known as he is, rarely appears in truly family-friendly fare. Paddington 2 won't just thrill a bright-eyed child, but is capable of warming the coldest cockles of any curmudgeon's heart. It's also worth pointing out that the CGI for Paddington along with his real-world interactions is seamless, uncanny valley technical wizardry.

To be fair, Grant makes for an enjoyably ridiculous villain in a part that comes with no small amount of self-deprecation. You want to take this fuzzy little guy home with you even though he does clean out his ears with an electric toothbrush! His motto, "If we're kind and polite, the world will be right", is the film's entirely honest moral. His eyes are especially "real" and express all his emotions beautifully. Somehow, "Paddington 2" is so sweet and moving and amusing and imaginative and handsome that it's impossible not to be charmed by this thing. Paddington 2 has a lot of worthy ones - the importance of kindness, family, and, heck, even saving money to get a thoughtful gift for someone who means something to you.

Arriving just in time to brighten a typically dreary post-holiday season at the multiplex, "Paddington 2" is a beautifully structured comedy of the old school, full of inspired blink-and-you-miss-it wordplay, intricate gags that build on each other, and narrative digressions that pay off in ways that feel inspired rather than predictable.
