The Los Angeles man at the center of what is believed to be the first fatal "swatting" incident in the USA has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a hoax phone call that led to a deadly shooting in Kansas, records show. The Sedgwick County Jail shows he's booked on a warrant for involuntary manslaughter, giving a false alarm and interference with a law enforcement officer. His bail was set at $500,000.

Tyler Barriss, 25, was arrested the afternoon of December 29 in Los Angeles in connection with the crime, and waived extradition to Kansas in a Los Angeles courtroom last week.

For those unaware, "swatting" is when someone calls in a false police report that results in SWAT swarming in for an arrest, and Barriss has already faced prison time once before back in 2016.

The address was actually the home of Andrew Finch, who opened his front door when he saw that police were outside.

The talk show host's widely-applauded speech focussed on the plight of sexually abused women and the "MeToo" movement. The vanity campaigns by the rich and famous have to end before they're even allowed to start.

Glendale police believe he was involved in at least two dozen other swatting and hoax calls around Southern California. Officers said Finch was ordered to raise his hands but moved them to his waist. The Los Angeles Police Department was investigating Barriss on allegations that he made similar calls in late 2017, and had planned a meeting with federal prosecutors before arresting the 25-year-old in connection with the Kansas incident. "He doesn't play video games", Finch said.

Barriss was given a fake address after two competitive CoD players got into an argument over an online 'Wager match, ' where he would eventually call in a phony hostage situation, leading to a massive police response to the area.

There is no update regarding punishment for the Call of Duty player that apparently provided Finch's address as his own. Calgary police are charging Barriss with mischief and fraud.
