"I think President Trump is racially ignorant and racially uninformed".

Two Republican senators who were in the room have said they do not recall the president making those remarks specifically.

Mr Trump's uncouth statement has shocked the world with U.S. diplomats around the world being summoned for formal reproach in countries they serve.

The United States itself has its own problems such as unemployment among millions of people, inequality and non-access to healthcare for many poor people, Duarte said.

"No longer can Members of Congress, particularly Republicans, stand with such a unsafe, disturbed, and deceitful man who is a threat to everything for which America, the greatest democracy on Earth, stands".

He said Haiti's government had summoned a U.S. official to explain Trump's remarks.

The White House has not denied the language used at the Thursday meeting on immigration.

According to those briefed on the conversation, the president used the phrase * a href="http://abc7chicago.com/politics/trump-why-allow-immigrants-from-s***hole-countries/2930875/" *"s***hole countries" while questioning why the US would accept more immigrants from Haiti and nations in Africa, rather than places like Norway.

When it came to talk of extending protections for Haitians, Mr Durbin said the president replied: "We don't need more Haitians".

Critics of the president blasted the vulgar comments made in the Oval Office.

On Thursday, Trump was meeting lawmakers to discuss a proposal for an immigration plan when he reportedly grew agitated as the conversation turned to citizens of Haiti and El Salvador, and immigrants from the African continent.

David Perdue, Republicans who've been close allies to the President on the issue of immigration, were also in the meeting but issued a carefully worded statement after Trump tweeted Friday morning that the description of his remarks was not accurate.

In a statement released on Friday, the mission expressed its disappointment in the president of the United States and demanded a "retraction of the comment" and an "apology to Africans". Trump denies using the word.

Experts believe Trump has permanently damaged the United States standing in the world. "Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!"

Yesterday Ghana's president Nana Akufo-Addo called Trump's remark "extremely unfortunate" and said that "we will not accept such insults, even from a leader of a friendly country, no matter how powerful".
