The sheriff's office says the "murder-for-hire" became a case of "mistaken identity" and that the victim was not the intended target.

The pair allegedly mistook Zengotita-Torres for the target, abducted her and later killed her, Gibson said.

Her body was found in Ormond Beach, many miles from her home after she'd been kidnapped and suffocated. Reports state that the killer duo forced Zengotita-Torres into the trunk of her auto, tortured her for her ATM card, and then suffocated and killed her with garbage bags.

Ramos beat the woman until she passed out, Gibson said, and she eventually died of suffocation from the garbage bags.

Speaking of the incident, Russ Gibson, Osceola County Sheriff said: "Even after accused hit team Alexis Ramos and Glorianmarie Quinones Montes realized they had the wrong woman, they still continued with their plan of murder", the New York Post reported.

Gibson said that's when Ramos and Rivera realized they had abducted the wrong person, but chose to continue with their plan.

Deputies say Ishnar Lopez Ramos paid Gloriamarie Quinnones Montes and Alex Ramos Rivera to help her kill a woman who was supposedly involved with the same man as she was.

Zengotita-Torres worked at the same store as the intended target and the two looked similar, investigators said.

Following a progression of exchanges, police captured Lopez-Ramos, who drove them to the next two suspects for the situation.

Lopez Ramos is facing a first-degree murder charge.

As WFTV reported, Gibson told reporters that all three suspects "confirmed that this was a murder-for-hire and that the victim was mistakenly targeted and murdered".
