Charges against Nicolas DeMeyer, arrested today were in a federal indictment unsealed in Manhattan.

The wine rightfully belonged to David Solomon, the CEO of Goldman Sachs, a spokesperson for the company confirmed, although the victim wasn't named in the indictment.

Among hundreds of stolen bottles were vintages "from the French estate Domaine de la Romanee-Conti", according to the indictment.

Prosecutors note that De-Meyer didn't take the bottles for personal use; he used the alias Mark Miller to put them back on the market. The wine dealer picked up the bottles from Mr. De-Meyer's Manhattan apartment, then transported some of the bottles to New Jersey and shipped some to California.

Mr Solomon, 55, considered a contender to succeed Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Blankfein, is a double-black-diamond skier and wine collector who earned the title of Mr. Gourmet 2010 from the Society of Bacchus America.

De-Meyer, who worked for Solomon from 2008 to 2016 but not for Goldman Sachs, is charged with one count of interstate transportation of stolen property and risks spending up to 10 years in prison if convicted.

The indictment said DeMeyer in October 2016 stole seven bottles of DRC wine for which Solomon had paid $182,434.

"The theft was discovered in the fall of 2016 and reported to law enforcement at that time", said Andrew Williams, a spokesman for Goldman Sachs, in an email. She was convicted of forging checks and money transfers from her ex-bosses' bank accounts from February 2001 to April 2002 and spending the funds on luxuries including Cartier jewelry and a 750,000 pound ($1 million) villa in Cyprus.
