No one was injured, FOX KTVU reported.

In a report by Mashable they noted that "On an internal Apple email thread viewed by Mashable, one Apple employee speculated that the culprit may be firing "rubber rounds" at the buses. We're not ruling anything out", he told the British paper. Others think someone assaulted the bus with rocks or a BB gun, though the exact weapon is still unknown.

Apple told staff that its commuter buses would be diverted away from the I-280 highway until further notice.

The shuttle buses were not marked with the logo of the tech company using them.

Why are the buses being attacked?

USA marshal killed, two police officers injured in Harrisburg shooting
A Dauphin County Communications dispatcher confirmed there was a shooting but declined to provide other information. Dozens of police crews and emergency personnel are at 18th and Mulberry Streets in Harrisburg.

The tech giants operate free shuttle services between San Francisco and their offices in Silicon Valley, at least an hour's drive south.

The buses have become symbols of gentrification and the perception that the tech sector is responsible for pushing up housing prices in the city, making it unaffordable for those without six-figure salaries. The service has repeatedly been protested and often faced vandalism, including a lawsuit as well. Sadly, some of these buses have been attacked in the last week by unknown criminals resulting in smashed windows. Then the next year, protesters blocked the buses and waved banners expressing discontent over the privatization of the region's transport system. The buses were attacked on highway 280, so the company has chose to divert them from that road, even though doing so would extend the commute time by 30-45 minutes in either direction.

The incidents occurred while buses carrying Apple and Google employees were driving in both directions of Interstate 280 in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California on Tuesday morning and evening, California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel confirmed to the San Francisco Chronicle. However, there are no reports of anyone getting injured.

Due to the potential targeting, the two tech giants made a decision to alter the usual routes, causing "an additional 30-45 minutes of commute time in each direction", according to an email from "The Apple Commute Team" obtained by Mashable. We're working closely with law enforcement to investigate these incidents and we'll notify you as soon as the coaches are able to return to the regular route.
