The 44-year-old actress took to Instagram on Saturday to address the death of her former manager, Jill Messick, who died by suicideon Wednesday. May you find peace on the astral plane.
Rose's tribute comes quickly after she was criticized by many for the fact that she initially kept quiet about the tragedy and instead, took to social media to show off about an award she received and about her accomplishments. Messick nevertheless reported allegedly "untoward" behaviour to her bosses, and an arrangement was negotiated between Weinstein and McGowan without Messick's knowledge.
Messick was the manager who set up McGowan's now-infamous meeting with Weinstein, at the Sundance Film Festival in 1997, where McGowan alleges Weinstein raped her.
Messick killed herself last week, reportedly distraught after details emerged about alleged sexual misconduct by Weinstein.
Messick, 50, battled depression for many years, according to a statement obtained by the Daily News from her family, but the recent thrust into the spotlight had made things harder.
In January, Weinstein's lawyer published emails from Messick and Ben Affleck and said they proved McGowan's accusations were a "performance". She opted not to add to the feeding frenzy, allowing her name and her reputation to be sullied despite having done nothing wrong.
"Seeing her name in headlines again and again, as part of one person's attempt to gain more attention for her personal cause, along with Harvey's desperate attempt to vindicate himself, was devastating for her, " said the statement.
After-hours messages left with representatives seeking comment from Weinstein and McGowan were not immediately returned.
