Rick Pitino showed little remorse and continued to maintain his innocence today during a press conference he held in NY to express his dissatisfaction with the NCAA's decision to make Louisville vacate the 2013 national championship it won with him as coach.

The Cardinals will have to vacate 123 victories including the championship, and return millions in conference revenue from the 2012-15 NCAA Tournaments.

"The violations in the case resulted in some men's basketball student-athletes competing while ineligible", the NCAA explained in its announcement Tuesday, adding: "The appeals committee stated when student-athletes participate while ineligible, these types of penalties are appropriate". The school later removed banners of the 2013 championship and 2012 Final Four appearance.

Pitino also denied knowing anything about former graduate assistant coach Andre McGee paying for strippers to attend parties at a campus dorm for former Louisville basketball players and recruits.

Pitino apologized to the fans of the program but maintained that he had no knowledge of the parties. The alleged acts resulted in a Level 1 violation of NCAA rules.

Interim athletic director Vince Tyra said the NCAA process was "unusual" compared to a federal organization such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), where he said guidelines are more black-and-white. "It's very hard to follow and set precedent".

The university issued a self-imposed postseason ban for the 2016 ACC and NCAA tournament.

"This dark cloud has hung over our heads for more than two years, and it has had a negative impact on our athletics program, our fans and the entire university family", Postel said.

However, the team is planning to move forward.

The Hall of Fame coach says that the team earned the title and that in the end, that's what matters. "You won 16 games in a row, you went 35-5 and cut down the nets in Atlanta", Padgett said he told former Cardinals. The University of Kentucky I took over a program on probation, took it to the top with three straight national championship games.

The NCAA's decision can't erase what actually happened, but it does remove some of the tangible reminders at Louisville.
