But one Democrat has complicated Ms. Garcia's bid - Tahir Javed, a healthcare executive and longtime Democratic fundraiser, who is backed by Senator Chuck Schumer of NY. Early vote turnout for the minority party has surpassed GOP totals - and even bested their 2016 numbers.

In Congressional District 21, Joseph Kosper leads Mary Street Wilson in the four-candidate field in the Democratic primary, according to statewide numbers. He will take on incumbent Ted Cruz, who easily won the Republican primary. The majority of those races will stay in the same party's hands.

From El Paso to Houston, there are so many candidates running for these nominations that the lift to clear a majority of the vote is near impossible.

The same is true in what will be some of the most watched races this fall - primaries to see who will face Reps.

The national party's intervention has only brought more energy and attention to Moser's candidacy; she is set to face Houston lawyer Lizzie Pannill Fletcher in the May runoff.

In the Senate race, both GOP Sen. Despite Jeb Bush's feuds with President Trump, Trump has endorsed George P. Bush for re-election for land commissioner. Van Taylor, R-Plano, who is running for Congress.

Some of the issues that helped Trump nationally, such as reworking trade deals like the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), can be vulnerabilities in Texas, where the state's economy is heavily dependent on trade with neighbor Mexico.

Most of the polls in the state will close at 8 p.m. ET, but some areas in the far western part of the state will be open until 9 p.m. ET.

Sessions said in an interview Tuesday that he's noticed the uptick in Democratic enthusiasm in his district but also pointed out that Republicans and Democrats cast roughly the same amount of ballots there in early voting.

"We have candidates everywhere, and that means we are reaching voters who haven't heard from Democrats in a long time", says Texas Democratic Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa.

Moser kept things positive while campaigning in Houston on Tuesday, saying the strong Democratic turnout in early voting, "It's fantastic".

Kentucky sees decrease in ER visits related to opioid overdoses
In the Northeast, opioid overdose emergency room visits rose by 105 percent in DE and 81 percent in Pennsylvania. But some states, such as Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island showed a slight decrease .

College students waited more than an hour to vote in liberal Austin, far-flung rural counties offered Democratic candidates for the first time in years and a tide of anti-Trump activism helped propel almost 50 women to make a run for Congress. But that cuts another way - some of those crowded primaries have turned particularly nasty in the final stretch, highlighting a Democratic divide between centrists and progressives.

Late Tuesday Cruz released a radio ad warning Texans that his Democrat nominee O'Rourke "wants to take our guns" over his call to ban assault weapons like the AR-15 used in last month's massacre at a high school in Florida.

The DCCC's maneuvers - the very embodiment of "the establishment" that many voters hate - may have had the opposite of the intended effect and could end up propelling Moser into the May runoff.

The Texas Tribune's Abby Livingston writes that in the 32nd District, it's former State Department official and ex-Clinton staffer Ed Meier who has raised the most money and is expected to secure a spot in the May runoff. Derrick Crowe, Mary Street Wilson and Joseph Kopser lead the pack on the Democratic side in the race to replace longtime U.S. Rep. Lamar Smith. Both Republicans won their primaries Tuesday night but face general election challengers. Public polling has identified Valdez and White as the most likely prospects for an anticipated runoffs, though it has also indicated there are many voters who have not made up their minds.

Tariq Thowfeek, communications director for the Texas Democratic Party, said party officials were expecting each of those primary races to proceed to runoffs "just because of the sheer number" of candidates.

Texas Democrats were fielding their largest contingent of congressional and legislative candidates in a primary in several decades.

Bush is facing three Republican primary challengers, including his predecessor in the job, Jerry Patterson.

For the younger Bush, after winning election in 2014, the "realities of holding office began to sink in", Philpott writes. He's also faced questions about his handling of funds related to the recovery effort following Hurricane Harvey. You know, the one we're supposed to remember all the time.

Current Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick easily won her GOP primary last.

"I hope that our political environment changes".
