PS4 Firmware Update Features and More

PS4 Exclusive 'Days Gone' Delayed into 2019 Days Gone heads to 2019 as Sony spreads out zombie games

PS4 firmware 5.50 is finally available for all the users around the world, weighing in at around 438MB. The mode is set to "improve image quality in some games when your PS4 Pro is connected to a TV with 2K resolution or lower", unfortunately, it won't help you if you have a regular ol' PS4. You'll be able to set limits on how long your child can play each day, place restrictions on certain days of the week, extend/shorten play-time, and automatically log the youngsters out once it reaches a certain time of day. The children who are playing on the console are warned when their play session is nearly over, allowing them to find a save point or safe logout point before running out of time. Unfortunately, the PS4 is still a bit daft when it comes to reading a USB drive and you have to go through the trouble of creating a folder called "IMAGES" on the drive and then transfer the images to that folder only for the console to read them but at least it's an option now. The family managers/guardians also have the option to add extra game time via their smartphone or PC.

Adults can now keep track and control the length of PS4 playtime for children. This process substantially reduces the presence of "jaggies", the stair-step jagged lines you'll often see on foliage, power lines, fences, and line edges more generally within a given game. In some games, you can also reduce the frame rate per second. If your PS Plus membership is expired, a PS Plus icon with a lock will appear next to your game so you'll know you can not play the game until you've re-subscribed. Just go to Notifications and press the "triangle" or "OPTIONS" button to open up a menu that will allow you to select a single or multiple notifications you'd like to delete. Last but not least, users can delete old notifications and set custom backgrounds, message logos, and message thread pictures through a portable USB device.

You can also extend or shorten your child's play time on the day they play. Just be aware, similar to when playing a game on disc or via digital download on PS4, background music may not always be available. The update rolls out today and to give you a closer look at some of the key features, including a few new additions, take a look at what you'll be enjoying from today.

By popular demand, you can now import your own images via USB stick to use as custom wallpapers on PS4. You'll then have an option to select the flash drive you have plugged into the PS4, and after choosing the photo you'd like, you can crop and move it around to get the ideal look. On the image selection screen, select image files from a USB storage device.

It's an awesome-looking piece of art that features some of PlayStation's most valuable female heroines, so you can get in on the fun with some familiar PlayStation characters.

If you're courageous, then you can do a system update online through your console, or grab the 5.50 update from Sony and pop it on a USB drive and update using that.
