De Villiers ton hands South Africa commanding lead

South Africa struck vital blows in the afternoon session to have Australia 86 for three at tea in the second test at St George's Park on Sunday.

Bancroft scored 24 before he chopped a Lungi Ngidi delivery onto his wicket.

"As a bowler you block out who you're bowling to but he's obviously an unbelievable player", Mitchell Marsh said of De Villiers, having trapped Du Plessis and De Bruyn lbw. Four demerit points would have led to an automatic suspension of one Test or two ODIs/T20I's, whichever came first.

At the start of Day 3 in Port Elizabeth, AB de Villiers' 126 not out pushed South Africa's first-innings lead over Australia to 139. Already he had delivered South Africa from a position of stagnation to a position of strength.

The Australian seamers made effective use of reverse swing for most of the second and third sessions to pose some hard questions for the batsmen before Steve Smith took the second new ball just over five overs from the close.

Trump risks trade war to fulfill political pledge
Trump said the tariffs, which will come into effect after 15 days, will not initially apply to Canada and Mexico . The EU, however, did not leave the meeting with the exemption from the new tariffs it is looking for.

Warner was at the centre of an aggressive fielding display by the Australians in the first test in Durban, where his on-field verbal battle with South Africa's Quinton de Kock boiled over with an ugly confrontation between the players on a staircase near the dressing rooms.

He lost wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock during his rampage - out bowled by the ideal off-break by Nathan Lyon that pitched on middle and leg, spun past the outside edge of the left-hander's bat and clipped the top of off-stump.

That left the Aussies still 53 runs behind the Proteas' first innings total of 382 and under somewhat pressure. He says it wasn't intentional. While all his other team-mates struggled to score at a good clip, de Villiers collected runs easily, managing a strike rate of 86.30 while the rest of South Africa's top eight combined to score at 38.22. With Philander he will start the 3rd day of the 2nd Test. He reached 100 off just 117 balls, a free-flowing innings that made batting look much easier than it really was, especially with the ball reverse swinging on Day 2.

De Villiers also passed 8,500 test runs during the innings, the fourth South African after Jacques Kallis, Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla to do that. He returned for the Boxing Day Test against Zimbabwe and has been part of all five Tests against India and Australia since then. But both batsmen fell in quick succession and that helped Australia get an edge over South Africa on the day. He has had a control percentage of over 85 against each of the four major Australia bowlers, best of all against Pat Cummins with 94.94%.
