Serena And Venus Williams Meet After 14-Year Tournament Boycott

Venus Williams moves into third round at BNP Paribas Open Serena Williams started after 15 months break

Venus last beat Serena in the semifinals of the Rogers Cup in 2014, in a two-hour, three-set match. After that, she's lost all three matches to Serena - including last year's Australian Open final. But at Indian Wells, one journey has to be halted for the other to progress.

Venus Williams (L) and Serena Williams talk as they play during a match.

Serena leads Venus 17-11 all time and has won eight of their last nine meetings, most recently the Australian Open final past year.

Not only is Venus now more match fit - this is her 13th WTA event over the past 12 months, and Serena's first - but the earlier in the tournament they play each other, the more it has favoured Venus.

It will be their earliest meeting since the sisters' first match in the series, a straight-sets victory by Venus in the second round of the 1998 Australian Open.

Charlie Pasarell, then the tournament director, said in the same USA Today story that he didn't discount Richard Williams was racially abused.

LeBron James blames Cavaliers' woes on team injuries
The Cavaliers' road trip continues with a Tuesday night contest against the Phoenix Suns that will tip off just after 10 p.m. The Lakers used a 22-3 run at the end of the third quarter to run away with a 127-113 victory over the Cavaliers.

When she entered the court, she was given a loud ovation from the packed arena, with many in the stadium standing and applauding her third appearance in Indian Wells in the last 17 years.

"That's, you know, totally gone out of my mind". In fact, it's the first time they've met before the Round of 16 since their very first head-to-head matchup more than 20 years ago. She marked the occasion with a gold-toned "S" Serena pin that was available to fans who came to see her play.

"She gave me the trophy because I was so upset".

Serena Williams will face older sister Venus tonight in a third-round match of the BNP Paribas Open, playing an opponent she wished she wasn't in her first tournament since becoming a new mom.

She admitted to feeling rusty in her first two rounds against Zarina Diyas and Kiki Bertens but a wary Venus countered: "She's playing really well and just honing her game". "When she's missing, it's not by much".

"Olympia has tons of footage of me not being kind to myself". There were moments literally when I'm in the hospital bed and I just think about that. I have a long way to go. "So I think that's helping me out, too'".
