"We're very sorry this happened".

The social network's search suggestions, which are supposed to automatically offer the most popular search terms to users, apparently broke around 4am in the United Kingdom, and started to suggest unpleasant results for those who typed in "video of".

In a statement, Facebook apologised and said it was investigating the issue: "As soon as we became aware of these offensive predictions we removed them. We are looking into why these search predictions appeared, and going forward, we're working to improve the quality of search predictions".

Facebook just last week faced an outcry after the Guardian reported that it ran a survey asking users if they thought men should be allowed to ask children for sexual pictures through the site. Facebook's vice president of product, Guy Rosen, issued an apology, saying the platform has no plans of allowing the behavior on the site and that the survey has been a mistake. Google also faced similar criticisms due to the autocomplete feature, which can be offensive to religion, gender, or race.

Facebook always want to help its users to find what they want easily among the billions of staus, photos, and videos that are shared on the social network. Facebook fixed the snafu in a matter of few hours, but it was too late as screenshots were widely circulated on Twitter. However, even after they removed suggestions hinting about possible child porn on the social media platform, the search continued to behave unusually.

Facebook did not immediately respond to questions about its search prediction feature and what information the suggestions are based on.
