The 77-year-old, originally from Liverpool and now based in Los Angeles, was bestowed the honour by Prince William in Queen Elizabeth's New Year's honours list on Tuesday.

It's also 53 years since the group were awarded their MBE, and 21 years since Sir Paul McCartney received his honour for services to music.

Speaking to the BBC, Ringo said he missed having the rest of the Beatles around him, noting, "I was a bit shaky today on my own".

John Lennon later claimed that the Beatles were so nervous at the idea of meeting the Queen they sneaked into a bathroom at Buckingham Palace for a cigarette.

Joking aside, Starr, who attended the ceremony with his wife Barbara Bach, admitted he felt a little lost without his bandmates at Buckingham Palace.

Jose Mourinho Planning Major Manchester United Overhaul
Shaw left The Saints to move to Old Trafford for a fee of £27m back in 2014 and had made a bright start at the club. The win over Brighton carried greater weight due to the circumstances around Mourinho's position as the manager.

He arrived at the investiture with his wife, Barbara Bach, offering his trademark peace sign for fans and photographers.

And when it came to how he'd be choosing to use his knighthood, the newly-appointed Sir Ringo had one thing in mind.

Starr is the second member of the band to receive this honor following Paul McCartney who received knighthood back in 1997.

Starr added he knew exactly what he'd do with his new medal.

"I don't know how to use this (title) properly", he said as he showed the medal to a BBC reporter after the ceremony, "but I expect you to use it".
