Due to government policies, producing the phone within India can cut its price by 5 to 7 percent, though Apple will need to produce India's entire demand for the model within the country to see the full savings.

Apple has begun trial production of iPhone 6s Plus - one of its highest selling models in India - at the Bengaluru facility of its contract manufacturer Wistron, which may lead to a lowering of its price, according to The Economic Times citing sources. To that end, the iPhone SE - Apple's only iPhone with a 4-inch screen - is already manufactured in Indian factories, providing the government with the jobs it seeks while diminishing taxes on that model. The Economic Times claims that it's set up a new assembly line which will be up and ready within the next couple of weeks.

Local assembly of iPhone SE since May past year helped the model to be insulated from a 6-7% price hike that Apple had to undertake as the basic custom duty on smartphones was increased to 15% from 10% in December and again to 20% in February. The iPhone 6S Plus will be similarly protected, so here's hoping the brand adjusts the figure accordingly.

Apple plans to start manufacturing another iPhone in India, according to a new report. If Apple wants to cut down on additional cost, it will want to make parts and packaging within India as well. The Indian government announced a 10 percent customs duty on circuit boards, camera modules, connectors, and other parts.

In March Patently Apple posted a report titled "Apple Supplier Wistron has been given the Green Light to build a Larger Assembly Plant in India to Expand iPhone Production".

An industry executives said Salcomp is into manufacturing of chargers and adapters for iPhones, while Shenzhen YUTO Packaging manufactures packaging products.

Before you get excited though, it should be kept in mind that this change might not happen immediately since Wistron is just getting started, meaning Chinese imports will continue for the moment.
