ETA Separatists Apologize for 'Pain,' 'Harm' It Caused
Eta asks forgiveness for pain and harm of separatist campaign

The group said it recognizes "direct responsibility it has acquired" in the "excessive suffering" their actions have caused.
- The Basque separatist group ETA apologised on April 20, 2018 for the "pain" and "harm" it caused during its decades-long campaign of violence, and appealed to its victims for forgiveness. "ETA's errors and bad decisions have also created victims that did not participate directly in the conflict, both in the Basque country and outside of it", the group said.
In a statement published by Basque newspapers Berria and Gara, ETA said: "We want to show our respect to the dead, the injured and the victims that ETA's actions have caused", the statement said. It is also to vow never to return to violence.
"We are conscious that in this long period of struggle, we have created a lot of pain, including damages for which there is no solution. We are very sorry".
The group, which is due to conclude its definitive dissolution within the next few weeks, said the future would have to bring further reconciliation within the Basque country.
