France urges Europe to act on 'unacceptable' US Iran sanctions

President Donald Trump announced last Tuesday that he is to pull the USA out of the deal.

The Iran nuclear deal was signed between Iran and the P5 (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council) plus Germany and the European Union in Vienna in July 2015.

He further said to sign a presidential memorandum to begin reinstating U.S. nuclear sanctions on Iran.

Reacting to Trump's announcement, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday said he would send his foreign minister to negotiate with countries remaining in the nuclear deal after Donald Trump's decision to pull America from the deal.

"The United States is a big gorilla on the world stage", worldwide trade lawyer Judith Lee told broadcaster CNN. France's foreign minister said Friday he had asked for exemptions or longer grace periods for the exit of French companies such as oil-and-gas giant Total SA and vehicle maker Peugeot SA that have returned to the Iranian market since the 2015 nuclear accord.

Despite the USA exit, Britain and Iran expressed their commitment to ensuring that the accord is upheld, according to a statement released by British Prime Minister Theresa May's office.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, speaking in Dublin, declared: "We are stakeholders" and will remain so. "The JCPOA is working - that is a view shared by our European allies, independent experts, and the current U.S. secretary of defence", he said, adding that the JCPOA is in America's interest - it has significantly rolled back Iran's nuclear programme.

It enabled Iran's bad behavior across the region, enriched and empowered the Islamic Republic's military and terrorist operations, and put them on a path to a massive, modern nuclear program with a nuclear breakout time of just weeks in less than eight years.

The new agreement would supplant the Iran nuclear accord, which Mr. Trump formally abandoned last week but which the leaders of Britain, France and Germany have vowed to preserve. North Korea's own history with worldwide nuclear agreements is both fraught and entirely different than that of Iran, but at the very least all observers should be able to agree that the last thing needed on the eve of fragile denuclearization negotiations is a sudden dose of uncertainty. "This means that we now have to try, together with the Chinese and the Russians, to keep the Middle East free of nuclear weapons". "Now, that will not happen!"

In withdrawing the USA from the Iran nuclear deal, President Donald Trump outlined a rationale that contradicted the analyses of US and foreign intelligence sources.

Europeans leaders have stressed on the fact that Iran is "fully compliant" with the deal, and hence, it is irrational to scrap it, which, if nothing, has at least augmented Iran's break-out time to obtain a nuclear weapon from three months to one year.

Economic sanctions on Iran will soon resume.

In an interview with ZDF public television, Altmaier noted the United States has set a 90-day deadline for foreign firms to comply with the return of sanctions and that this period can be used to convince Washington to change course. "They've now fired missiles into Israel", Pompeo said.

The Treasury Department said it took joint action with the United Arab Emirates against nine Iranian individuals and entities involved in the network, and threatened sanctions against any other companies that help those nine.

In her latest comments on Iran and sanctions, Chancellor Merkel said: "It is in our interest to have a strong transatlantic relationship".

On whether Washington was seeking a regime change in Iran, Bolton replied: "I'm not the national security decision-maker".

He emphasized on CNN that his job now was to advise Trump and that the president would make the policy decisions.

"It's possible", Bolton said. "So, I think, at the moment, there's some feeling in Europe that they're really surprised we got out of it, really surprised at the reimposition of strict sanctions".
