Former Premier Nawaz Sharif today turned down the statement released by National Security Committee (NSC) yesterday in the aftermath of his controversial remarks about the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Pakistan's top civil and military leaders on Monday condemned a suggestion by ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif that Islamist militants who killed 166 people in the 2008 Mumbai attacks had crossed the border from Pakistan.

They observed that it was very unfortunate that the opinion arising out of either misconceptions or grievances was being presented in disregard of concrete facts and realities.

"Nawaz's statement will take us from the greylist to the black-list", he further commented while referring to Pakistan's inclusion into the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey-list. Kasab was executed after a court found him guilty and handed down death sentence. He wondered why a brouhaha was being created over his remarks when similar admissions have been made in the past by others, sources said.

Former PM Nawaz Sharif arrives at the accountability court today. He said he did not say anything wrong although his spokesperson said the former PM, who was disqualified in July a year ago on charges of corruption, said his statement was grossly misinterpreted.

Nawaz regretted that those who ask questions are being termed traitors in the media.

Sharif on Monday dispelled the notion that the comments were falsely attributed to him, saying that he will speak the truth come what may. The petitioners plead that the statement of Mr Sharif amounts to treason against the country and he is liable to be proceeded against under Article 6 of the Constitution as well as sections 3 and 5 of Official Secret Act, 1923.
