Kids Rescued from California Home Were 'Shot With Crossbows' and 'Waterboarded'

California prosecutors allege 10 children in filthy home were waterboarded, hit with crossbows, BBs, kicked and punched. Fairfield father of 10 accused of child abuse: 'I'm the Indiana Jones of spirituality'

Ten kids faraway from a dirty California house in late March have been waterboarded and hit with crossbows, amongst different violent acts, Solano County prosecutors stated Wednesday.

The allegations were part of prosecutors' attempt to have the children's mother Ina Rogers' bail increased after she was charged with nine counts of felony child abuse on Wednesday.

Prosecutors have refused to discuss details of the allegations against Rogers and her husband Jonathan Allen, 29, who has pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of torture and felony child abuse.

Rogers said she feels the family is being judged for having so many children and choosing to home-school them.

According to Juarez's motion, Fairfield Police came to the family's house in a suburb about 45 miles north of San Francisco on March 31 to investigate one of the children being reported as missing. They found the child asleep under a bush in a nearby residence and returned the child to the home, where they conducted a search due to concerns about the children's safety, police said.

Police said the conditions suggest child abuse of the 10 children, who range in age from 4 months to 11 years old, police said. She "may not be a danger to the public at large, but these charges make clear she is a danger to the children", Judge William J. Pendergast said. Some neighbors of Ina Rogers and Jonathan Allen said they had no idea the couple had so many children.

Ina Rogers, 31, told reporters that she had one prior interaction with child welfare officials when her mother "had mentioned something" that prompted a home visit.

All her children were then taken into protective custody by Solano County Child Welfare services and placed in the care of other family members, with whom they remain.

On Tuesday, Rogers was charged with nine counts of felony child abuse in addition to a misdemeanor charge of child cruelty that she already faced.

They found a home filled with rotted food and human and animal waste, said Fairfield Lt. Greg Hurlbut. She was taken into custody with bail set at $495,000. Allen is being held in jail with bail set at $5.2 million.

The maternal grandmother of 10 California children recently removed from their Fairfield home claimed the children "lived in torture" and accused their father of sadism and devil worship.

"I've been doing this a long time, I was a prosecutor for 22 years, and have not seen a case of such overwhelming evidence of mental, emotional, physical abuse by the hands of their parents", Solano County District Attorney Krishna Abrams said.

Stories about the alleged abuse came out gradually in interviews with the children over the past six weeks and eight of the children told professionals about incidents dating back several years, authorities said.

Allen denied being a Satanist in a jailhouse interview with local news station KCRA.

Allen and Rogers, are also accused of providing unsafe living conditions for their children.

She also said that people judge her because she homeschools all of her children while working full-time. She was released on April 9 after posting a $10,000 bail.

They both worked, she said - she on the graveyard shift as an EKG technician, and Allen as a tattoo artist. However, KNTV reported that she's since been charged with nine felony counts of child abuse.

"I want the police to know that I am not an animal", Allen said.
