Warriors' Steve Kerr calls National Football League 'idiotic' for anthem policy

Woody: This is the land of the free and the home of the brave, something the NFL seems to have forgotten Spare me your crocodile tears about the new NFL Anthem rule
Rita Gibson | 26 May, 2018, 02:28

Older, white, Republican fans generally frowned upon the anthem protests and agreed that players who participated should be penalized.

"The players, who weren't planning on demonstrating during the national anthem this season, said they were looking for way to "skirt" the new NFL rules just to spite the NFL", writes Fox News.

Of all 32 owners, New York Jets Chairman and CEO Christopher Johnson have taken the firmest stance against the ban, saying he'll pay any fines incurred by his players.

When asked if they support or oppose the new policy, which states teams will be fined if players "do not stand and show respect for the flag and the [national] anthem", 53 percent of self-described National Football League viewers said they support the policy, with 32 percent opposing.

"I feel like it might make people rebel, " he said.

Kerr says that he takes pride in the National Basketball Association being more socially conscious than the NFL.

Looking for news you can trust?

"This season, all league and team personnel shall stand and show respect for the flag and the anthem", NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "That's what this says to me and to mine". "And it has nothing to do with kneeling".

The question is whether they intend to escalate their protests in some way. It's never been about that.

". Everybody is not going to agree on things, everybody is not going to have the same opinion on things, so just because somebody disagrees on something, an issue, with something that's going on in this country, that they should pack up and leave - that's absurd, in my opinion". I think we're getting distracted a little bit about what that means. So, I don't agree with the ruling from that standpoint, but I've always been a person who's fought for social justice and social causes and any kind of ruling is not going to stop me fighting for people who are disadvantaged in our country.

Others around the league didn't see the policy as a potential issue.

Eric Holcomb, who was returning to Indianapolis from a trip to Europe, said in a tweet that he was monitoring the situation. Barnes said the suspected shooter wasn't injured and wouldn't comment on whether the student had been in trouble before.

Davis said his father served 28 years and nine tours in the Army. But he's just being more divisive, which is not surprising. I think we were at a better place in terms of what was happening in the world.

Trump mostly approved of the new rule. "Players will have to make a decision about whether they speak out".

"I don't think people should be staying in locker rooms, but I still think it's good", Trump said.

The NFL recklessly instituted a new National Anthem policy that panders to President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence instead of respecting NFL players and the rights the American Flag represents. "I'm really not too anxious about it".

"They weren't disrespecting the flag or the military", Kerr continued.

York abstained from voting altogether, telling the Los Angeles Times that he wants to have a "deeper conversation with our players" about the issue.

"I love my children".

On his thoughts about the rule changes: "I haven't really thought too much about it because it's not really going to affect me".

"I will not let it silence me or stop me from fighting", he said. I think we were more united. Nationalism is just loving your country just to love it. "Maybe you shouldn't be in the country". "Patriotism is loving it enough to sacrifice for it, but also to call it when it's wrong". Kaepernick has been without a team since the 2016 season.

"We believe today's decision will keep our focus on the game and the extraordinary athletes who play it - and on our fans who enjoy it", Goodell said.
