Genao-Minaya and Nunez, both from New Jersey, were arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, a felony that carries a maximum of 20 years in prison, according to court documents. Troopers "became suspicious of criminal activity" during the stop and searched the vehicle and discovered a false compartment in the empty trailer.

Troopers seized the fentanyl in a traffic stop on Interstate 80 near Kearney on April 26.

The Nebraska State Patrol seized nearly 120 pounds of the drug fentanyl, which is the largest bust in the state's history and one of the largest in the country.

Initially police believed that he had discovered the connection of any drug and cocaine, but on Thursday officials said that testing showed that the drugs were "fully fentanyl". The Centre for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that fentanyl, and variants of it, killed more than 20,000 Americans past year - a number which is still on the rise. It was not until later that additional testing revealed the state troopers busted a driver attempting to transport fentanyl.

"When you take that much fentanyl off the street you are saving lives", Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts said Thursday.

The amount was sufficient to kill greater than 26 million folks, the Kansas Metropolis Star reported.

But Republican Senate leaders, including Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the majority leader, and Richard M. Rubio did not give a direct answer to questions on ABC about whether Trump's claims were wrong.

"Without question, seizures like this save thousands of lives". They were booked into the Buffalo County Jail and bond was set at $100,000.

It is reported that 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal for most people.

Fentanyl has received increased attention in recent years as a contributor to the country's opioid crisis, which kills an average of 115 Americans each day, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Troopers have seized more than 4,300 pounds of marijuana, which exceeds yearly totals for every year since 2012.

In the United States, it is approved as an anaesthetic and for pain relief, but because of its high profit margin for traffickers, it has become a large part of America's opioid crisis.
