Dechen Wangmo said the government and communities need to come together to create enabling environment so that people with cancer can live longer and are able to fight the disease. Most people have been impacted in some form or fashion, whether it is personally, or through someone we love.

Betty Craft, a member of the Appomattox Community was impacted by cancer in a way that motivated her to join the fight to find a cure for this awful disease. The feelings of fear and shock set in as she was given the news.

"The overwhelming support that I received from my family and friends was unbelievable". I had great doctors that designed a treatment plan just for me.

"A year ago, I was totally oblivious I had a cancer diagnosis", she said.

On June 9, the Salmon Arm branch of the Canadian Cancer Society will be going back to the all-nighter, as they host their annual Relay For Life at the Salmon Arm Fairgrounds. "Almost 40 percent of people will be diagnosed with cancer at some time in their lives, so this is truly a disease that touches all of us".

The money raised through Relay for Life events goes to the American Cancer Society's efforts to beat cancer and help those who are working to beat it themselves.

James Rodriguez: Liverpool boss Klopp issues Real Madrid demand after Zidane exit
It is a remarkable record, all the more so for a man who before the Kiev final admitted to not being the best tactician. Big players need a change. "I want to end this era at Real Madrid on a high".

"We have a rota of volunteers to support the 24-hour team and members who can't be there are helping with donations and fundraising".

Participants do not have to be part of Relay for Life teams, they simply have to have a seven inch ponytail to donate.

The program will begin with the introduction of cancer survivors and acknowledgement of the number of years since their cancer journey began. "It makes me proud as someone who spent some time here in high school that we are here today, raising money for a good cause". In addition to cardiovascular research, Dr. Behnke has also focused extensive research on manipulation of tumor microenvironments to enhance conventional cancer therapy outcomes. "I relay because it is my prayer that one day there will be a cure for all types of cancer", Craft said.

Activities for the Carthage Relay for Life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Central Park, 714 S. Garrison Ave., with registration at the survivor tent, a performance by Heartland Band, a craft fair and a auto show.

"I am alive because there has been research to know how to treat cancer", said Mead, who will participate in the Relay as part of DCH's team.

Last year, participants raised more than $38,000 and earned the Pacesetter award from the American Cancer Society. "Even if you aren't associated with a team or signed up to walk you are very welcome to attend".
