Ariya edges Kim in playoff to win US Women's Open

Brooke Henderson withdraws from U.S. Women's Open due to family illness US Women's Open: Ariya Jutanugarn leads by four shots after three rounds

Ariya Jutanugarn showed vast mental strength to win the US Women's Open at Shoal Creek, Alabama, on Sunday, recovering from a horrendous back-nine collapse to claim victory from Korea's Hyo Joo Kim in a sudden death playoff. "I have really good commitment".

"I felt really good and kept my nerves under control, but I think the nerves showed up in my putting", Smith said.

Both parred the third hole and they returned to the par-four 18th, where Ariya's superb bunker shot left her with a tap in for the win.

Australian Sarah Jane Smith fired a second-round 67 to grab a four-shot clubhouse lead as unsafe weather halted play at the US Women's Open in Alabama on Friday. They finally made their way to Birmingham on Tuesday, but given their detour and the rainy weather that caused the course to be closed early in the week, Jutanugarn only was able to play nine practice holes before the start of the play on Thursday.

The world number one then levelled the scores with a par at the second hole as Kim could only make bogey.

She finished with a one-over par 73 and a 72-hole total of 11-under 277, making it into the playoff despite a monumental back-nine collapse that saw her seven-stroke lead evaporate.

Liverpool confirm that no Fekir deal has been agreed
Should negotiations progress as expected, Liverpool hope to conduct Fekir's medical later this week before letting him join back up with the France squad.

Paul Azinger, the 1993 PGA Championship victor, said Ariya's confidence would have taken a real blow had she not found a way past Kim Hyo-joo in the playoff. "If you would have said after Kingsmill when I had missed my fifth one in a row, would you take a Top 5 at the U.S. Women's Open?"

She righted the ship in the playoff which went to a sudden death format after the two-hole aggregate start failed to produce a victor.

Sunday, the Spaniard carded a final round 69 to finish solo third at the U.S. Women's Open for her best finish in a major championship.

Then at the last another shot went after she put her second shot into a greenside bunker and failed to get up and down in two.

"I'm very happy", Ciganda said Sunday. It's no coincidence her game heats up as the temperatures begin to rise because Ciganda loves playing during the summer months. She's coming off a win just a few weeks ago. "I just want to keep working and win a tournament".
