One of Central America's most active volcanos has erupted in fiery explosions of ash and molten rock, killing at least seven people and injuring 20 while a towering cloud of smoke blankets nearby villages in heavy ash.

The Volcán de Fuego has spewed a stream of lava into a nearby village and sent a column of smoke and ash into the sky.

A man cleans ashes from the Volcan de Fuego off his auto in Antigua Guatemala, Sacatepequez department, southwest of Guatemala City on Sun., June 3, 2018. The lava river was running on the other side of the volcano. "That could cause more mud flows and nearby rivers to burst their banks", said Eddy Sanchez, director of Guatemala's seismological, volcanic and meteorological institute.

Video images show a charred landscape where a lava flow came into contact with homes.

Lesser amounts of ash fell on Guatemala City, which is 44 kilometers (27 miles) from the volcano.

"Not everyone was able to get out".

She said: "Not everyone escaped, I think they were buried".

There was no mistaking a hint of venom when Woods was asked if he believes his game is "good enough to win" as now constructed. But it was Woods that brought out the biggest roars at Muirfield Village Golf Club as he moved within six strokes of the lead.

Among the fatalities were four people, including a disaster agency official, killed when lava set a house on fire in El Rodeo village, Cabanas said.

A volcano southwest of Guatemala's capital has erupted for the second time this year, setting off loud explosions and spewing ash almost four miles into the sky.

The Volcan de Fuego exploded shortly before noon Sunday.

David de Leon, a CONRED spokesman, said a change in wind was to blame for the volcanic ash falling on parts of the capital.

Shelters were opened for those forced to flee. "Evacuations and searches are under way", he said, quoted by Reuters. "There are injured, burned and dead people", he said.

Volcan de Fuego blows outs a thick cloud of ash, blanketing villages. Streets and houses were covered in the colonial town of Antigua, a popular tourist destination.

The eruption also forced the Guatemala City's La Aurora worldwide airport to shut down its only runway.
