Kindergartners sing about lockdowns in 'jarring' nursery rhyme

This is the horrifying nursery rhyme American five-year-olds are taught to survive school shootings Poster of lockdown song in kindergarten classroom will break your heart

With limericks like, "Shut the lights off say no more". "Go behind the desk and hide, wait until it's safe inside".

The nursery rhyme, written in large, colourful letters, appears to follow the same tune as the lullaby Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, but tells the children what to do in the event of a school shooting.

Healey told The Washington Post that he and his wife came across the poster while they were visiting the school Wednesday as part of an official tour for parents who plan to send their children to kindergarten in the fall. Kids in Austria only know fire drills.

Cohen also revealed in the thread that her child had already been taught lockdown drills in pre-kindergarten classes.

"These are the things they unfortunately have to do", Cohen said.

Somerville Public Schools did not reveal to HuffPost which school had the poster, but a statement to HuffPost from Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Superintendent of Schools Mary Skipper calls the poem a result of "the world we live in".

However, she made clear that she didn't blame the kindergarten for its approach, tweeting: "The school is doing exactly what they need to be doing, and I am glad for it".

Should Heniz Salad Cream change its name?
But Lidl and Morrisons bosses also said there were "no plans" to change the name of their own products. It will soon be known as " Sandwich Cream ".

Georgy Cohen, from Somerville, Mass., posted a photo of the colorful sign hanging in her young daughter's class.

"To be shocked by it is important", she added. "To see that absurdity and horror and have that sick feeling in your stomach is important", she said. 'It is jarring - it's jarring for students, for educators and for families'.

"Students in Somerville and across the country know how unnatural this is, as evidenced by their vocal leadership and advocacy this year in response to continuing school shootings", read the statement.

So far in 2018, the U.S. has experienced 23 school shootings resulting in at least one injury or death.

Much like fire drills in past generations, lockdown drills are now common practice in schools and won't be going away anytime soon, according to the statement.

Not everyone agrees, and her post is sparking heated conversations online about the appropriate way to prepare young kids for the worst.
