Ex-Trump aide Paul Manafort faces more charges in Russian Federation inquiry

Former Manafort colleagues told Mueller he attempted to influence their testimony report Greg Nash

The special counsel said in a statement its third superseding indictment against Mr Manafort added Konstantin Kilimnik as a defendant and charges both men with conspiracy to obstruct justice and obstruction of justice.

The allegations of witness tampering relate to Manafort's criminal case in Washington where he faces charges of money-laundering conspiracy, false statements and acting as an unregistered foreign agent for Ukrainian interests.

The witnesses would eventually rat out Manafort and Kilimnik to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Paul Manafort, President Trump's former campaign chairman, is facing more federal criminal charges along with a new Russian co-defendant.

The indictment alleges that Manafort and Kilimnik "knowingly and intentionally attempted to corruptly persuade" two people "with intent to influence, delay, and prevent the testimony of any person in an official proceeding".

In the case of D2, a Manafort associate reached out to say Mr. Manafort was looking to share with the witness his own version of "what's going on".

The new charges were unsealed Friday against Paul Manafort and Konstantin Kilimnik.

Wolfe, ex-Senate intelligence committee staffer, indicted for lying to Federal Bureau of Investigation
The indictment provides a detailed account of Wolfe's interactions with one specific unnamed reporter. The Times said that Watkins had a relationship with Wolfe before she joined the newspaper.

He added: "That evidence would likely be extremely damaging to Manafort at trial-if he was innocent, why would he try to engage in witness tampering?"

In court papers, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is alleging that at least one witness in the Manafort case was contacted by the former Trump aide and coached on what he should say about his lobbying practices. Gates struck a plea deal with Mueller's office in February and is now cooperating with prosecutors.

Kilimnik, 48, has previously declined to comment on the allegations.

"They haven't been convicted of anything". In a previous indictment, Mueller's team said Kilimnik-named as "Person A"-was a former officer of the Russia's military intelligence wing, the GRU".

Earlier on Friday, Mr Trump denied that he was considering pardoning Mr Manafort.

Kilimnik, once described as "Manafort's Manafort", worked for Manafort's political consulting firm, Davis Manafort Partners International in Kiev, Ukraine.
