Will that knowledge mean a softer Brexit strategy will now emerge?

The Pound won a moment's respite late Tuesday when MP's rejected the so called "meaningful vote" amendment to the EU Withdrawal Bill, which seemingly kicks any threat to the stability of the government out into the long grass, but the next challenge to Prime Minister Theresa May's leadership and the government is already looming over Sterling.

Consequently a defeat on a number of Lords amendments to the European Union withdrawal bill was avoided, but there are further votes tomorrow.

The government concession is all the more remarkable because of the strength of opposition to the original amendment from ministers.

The European Union stepped up its warning to the United Kingdom that its proposal to remain temporarily aligned to the bloc's customs regime beyond 2020 won't prevent the re-emergence of checks along the 310-mile Irish border.

In a painful blow the the PM, Remain-supporting MP Philip Lee quit as justice minister this morning, saying he could not support "how our country's exit from the European Union looks set to be delivered".

The government last night gave into rebel demands to hand MPs an effective veto on May's Brexit deal.

She also repeated the defiant words spoken by David Davis from his days as a backbencher when he regularly rebelled against the government.

"And the thought of no deal absolutely terrifies us".

Speaking in parliament on Wednesday, May said the government could never allow the hands of the government to be tied in the negotiations or allow the Brexit decision to be reversed.

While in Pitt's care, Jolie is only allowed to call the children one time per day and at a time agreed upon by both parents. But a judge has threatened to change their arrangements if Jolie doesn't start giving Pitt access to their brood.

Dr Lee, who represents the Leave-voting Bracknell seat, said in a lengthy resignation statement: "Our Parliament should be able to direct our Government to change course in our interests".

The upshot of the shift may well be as dramatic as the parliamentary procedure is incomprehensible. The bill then returns to the House of Commons again later next week.

Traders will stay tuned into Brexit noise where the UK Prime Minister faces a series of challenging parliamentary votes on her plan to leave the customs union and single market after Brexit, but it will soon be time for the European Central Bank and FOMC. Given that after November 30, the House of Commons looks set to be empowered in the negotiations, it would not be in Barnier's interest to negotiate a harder form of Brexit before the U.K.'s self-imposed deadline.

Mr Buckland replied: "I entirely agree: the Government's policy is to achieve a deal because we are mindful of the points that he and others understand".

The Government has won the first votes during today's Brexit showdown.

Brexiteers were dejected by the turn of events, but are pinning their immediate hopes on the detail in the government's compromise.

The government said it would produce its revised plan on Thursday. "There could be a confidence motion [in the prime minister] or an early general election".

This interpretation was also endorsed by Labour's Shadow Brexit secretary Keir Starmer.

Theresa May's Janus-faced promise on a "meaningful vote" may have averted a defeat. We'll have to wait and see.
