White House trade adviser Peter Navarro on Tuesday apologized for making inappropriate comments attacking Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

On Sunday, Navarro, who is Trump's most hawkish trade adviser, assailed Trudeau for engaging in "bad faith diplomacy" in the wake of the G-7 meeting.

Bearing the brunt of that attack was Canada and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in a fury of tweets and TV appearances as Mr. Trump headed to Singapore for Monday's momentous U.S. This triggered a fiery response from U.S. President Donald Trump, who called Trudeau "very dishonest and weak" on the same day. "That's what weak, dishonest Justin Trudeau did, and that comes right from Air Force One".

"I used language that was inappropriate and basically lost the power of that message", he said.

-Canada relationship in nothing but positive terms. The move has been roundly criticized by Canada and the European Union, leading to heightened tensions at last week's summit of the Group of Seven wealthy democracies - just before Trump left for Singapore and a meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

Asked if he was apologising for the comments, Navarro said: "Yeah, absolutely". "That's going to cost him a lot of money". And, if I may quote the words of the great Bear Bryant, "when you make a mistake you should admit it, learn from it, don't repeat it".

"This is a critically important ally to the United States, and you don't give the back of your hand to some of our closest allies", he said, adding that he understood why Canada would be insulted that "America, their closest ally, would suggest that it is a national security threat".

While uncertainty about the future of the trade deal remains, the Bank of México said the value of the peso against the USA dollar is one of the variables that will suffer the most.

The G7 summit came after the Trump administration made a decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from the European Union (EU), Canada and Mexico, which had drawn strong opposition from the domestic business community and USA major trading partners. "It was very friendly", Trump said. "I mean seriously, Russia, who took over Crimea, all the violence that's taken place in Ukraine, the poisoning of people in the United Kingdom, the influence in our election this last time period", Heyman recounted.
