Apple is taking steps to block devices that can crack your iPhone's passcode, reports Reuters. While nearly all Android OEMs have switched to the USB-C connector on their flagship devices, some continue to launch their budget devices with a microUSB port. Now, the time has come for Apple to take it all to the next level, so they are apparently working on replacing the Lightning connector in the next-gen iPhone and iPad devices with USB Type-C. "We have the greatest respect for law enforcement, and we don't design our security improvements to frustrate their efforts to do their jobs".

In a statement, Apple said: "We're constantly strengthening the security protections in every Apple product to help customers defend against hackers, identity thieves and intrusions into their personal data". In a case that made plenty of headlines in 2016, it refused to help the Federal Bureau of Investigation get into a phone that mass shooter Syed Rizwan used before he and his wife killed 14 people and wounded 22 others in San Bernardino, California.

Apple said its changes were made with criminals in mind who can exploit the same vulnerabilities as law enforcement to break into stolen phones.

Then-FBI Director James Comey told Congress that without compelling Apple to write new software to facilitate the digital break-in, there would be no way to learn if the shooter's device contained evidence of a conspiracy. A brewing legal showdown was defused after the Federal Bureau of Investigation hired professional hackers to crack into the device. Companies including Cellebrite and Grayshift sell the devices, which plug into the Lightning port.
