"I had to go back inside because my break was over", she said.

By midafternoon, the raccoon had ventured an additional 10 stories up, its claws somehow digging in enough to continue.

By lunchtime, Minnesota Public Radio reporter Tim Nelson tweeted, the raccoon had climbed 12 stories up the UBS Tower - and things were getting stressful.

Right now in Minnesota, a humble raccoon has taken on a lofty challenge: it's scaling a skyscraper, and we're all really anxious about it.

An extremely courageous (or extremely stupid) raccoon scaled a Minnesota building on Tuesday, shocking onlookers and sending Twitter into an anxious frenzy.

Animal stuck on high-rise ledge becomes social media star

While a raccoon climbing up a building is surely unusual, it might not even make it a month in the memories of the millions who followed her journey.

"I was talking to a wildlife expert yesterday who said there might be a dozen or two dozen of these raccoons in every square mile here in Minnesota - they're everywhere". The animal made it to the roof early Wednesday, where the baited traps were waiting. At that point, the lure of cat food apparently enticed it into the trap.

The raccoon's adventures caused a stir on social media, with many on Twitter concerned about the safety of the animal or joking about the drama surrounding the daring crawl to the top.

The #mprraccoon first captured the hearts of millions on the internet when it started climbing the skyscraper Tuesday afternoon, eventually settling on a ledge more than 20 stories up where it spent several hours napping.

The writer and director of "Guardians Of The Galaxy", which features a raccoon as one of the characters, said he'd donate $1,000 to charity for the rescue of the raccoon. Technicians took the caged raccoon down a freight elevator to a truck, according to Wildlife Management Services, which provides animal control services for St. Paul.
